"Glider Basics from First Flight to Solo" by Tom Knauff is hands down the best, most practical guide for anyone that wants to learn to fly gliders. It is the accumulation of his decades of experience as a flight instructor and FAA flight examiner and along with his "After Solo" book, hits all the flight requirements in the FAA standards for training. Tom maintains and updates the book as needed to keep up with the latest FAA requirements. Tom is also a competition pilot, multiple world record holder in gliders, and SSA hall of fame member that has a deep interest in safety that is evident in all of his training books. He speaks with authority and deep knowledge of the subject to help you learn to fly safely every step of the way.
Glider Basics is clearly written and is organized to introduce concepts in the same sequence as practical flight training. The writing is clear and accessible to readers of all ages too. The chapters tend to be short and focused on key knowledge and skills you'll need as a pilot. No previous experience or aircraft knowledge is required, in fact he makes no assumptions on previous knowledge at all.
I can add that I earned my own Glider Pilots license using Tom's flight training books as the backbone of my flight training.
